The Live Here Love Here Small Grants Scheme is now accepting applications for 2026, offering community groups in Derry and Strabane the chance to fund environmental projects.

In 2025, nine local initiatives received a total of £15,896. Volunteers contributed 1,024 hours to improve shared spaces, enhance biodiversity and reduce litter.

Grants range from £500 to £3,000 for eligible organisations, including community and volunteer groups, schools and not-for-profit bodies. Applications close on 30 June 2026.

One of last year’s projects was delivered by Newbuildings Methodist Church, which used its grant to create the Epworth Environmental Garden. Fifty volunteers spent 175 hours planting pollinator-friendly flora, installing bird and bat boxes, and adding seating to encourage nature observation and outdoor learning.

Other 2025 recipients included Ardbarron Men’s Shed, Hive Cancer Support, Culmore Community Partnership Ltd and Glenelly Development Trust Ltd.

Across Northern Ireland, the scheme awarded £158,348 to 102 projects in 2025. Live Here Love Here runs the programme in partnership with 10 local authorities, including Derry City and Strabane District Council, and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.

Mayor Grace Uí Niallais said the funded projects show the difference volunteers and organisations can make with support. She encouraged groups across the council area to apply.

Orla McGrady, Grants Officer at Live Here Love Here, said the scheme empowers community-led environmental action and brings people together through volunteering. Community Engagement Manager Lynda Surgenor added that even modest funding can have a lasting impact when driven by local passion.

Live Here Love Here is also hosting Connecting Communities events to provide information on the scheme and how to apply.
