Translink bus and train services returned to normal on Friday after several days of evening suspensions prompted by public disorder in Belfast.

The company confirmed that all scheduled services, including late-night and special event travel, would operate as planned on Friday and Saturday for the Belsonic music festival at Ormeau Park.

On Thursday, Metro, Glider, and Ulsterbus services from Belfast were halted after 5:30pm, with the final rail departures leaving Grand Central Station before 8:15pm. A spokesperson said the decision was taken to ensure the safety of staff and passengers following consultations with partners.

The disruptions began on Tuesday evening when a Glider bus was set alight on the Newtownards Road in east Belfast, leading to a full service stop. Translink said replacing the vehicle would cost around £750,000.

On Wednesday, services were suspended without warning between noon and 12:30pm, causing confusion. Some resumed at 1:30pm but were withdrawn again at 5pm. Translink later stated that the day had presented a challenging and rapidly changing situation and apologised for the disruption.

The company said on Friday that buses and trains were running with only minimal alterations and that it was monitoring the situation closely with stakeholders. Passengers were advised to check the Translink website, social media channels, and Journey Planner app for the latest travel information.
