Concerns over speeding traffic and noise on Belmore Street in Enniskillen were raised in a letter published in October 1976. The writer described ongoing disruption from speeding cars and motorcycles, particularly at night and on Sundays.

The letter said the area had become like a race track, with disturbances reported from Monday to Friday and extending into weekends. Fridays and Sundays between 11 p.m. and 1.30 a.m. were said to be the worst times, along with Sunday afternoons.

Specific complaints included screeching brakes, harsh gear changes, and honking horns, which the writer said made it impossible to watch television, listen to the radio, play records, or read books.

The letter called on authorities to take action on the matter.
