A traffic collision on the M2 motorway northbound after York Street caused an obstruction on the adjacent railway line. Translink identified the incident as the reason for service issues.

Images online showed a lorry that had crashed through the barrier between the motorway and the railway.

Train services between York Street and Whiteabbey stations were cancelled after the line closed.

Translink confirmed on Saturday morning that operations on the Belfast-Derry/Londonderry and Belfast-Larne routes face further disruption until further notice.

Trains on these routes must operate at reduced speeds because of the earlier obstruction.

Services passing through the affected stations may experience cancellations or delays. Passengers should anticipate about 10 minutes of added journey time.

Translink and Northern Ireland Railways expressed regret for the inconvenience.
