90-year-old artist donates painting to Causeway Hospital MRI unit
A new painting donated by a 90-year-old North Coast artist has been installed in the MRI unit at Causeway Hospital, aiming to provide a distraction for patients during scans.
Brian Willis created the piece, titled ‘The MRI Noisemakers’, which depicts a playful scene of animals performing on stage as musicians while teddy bear families arrive for appointments.
Willis said the unusual noises emitted by MRI scanners sparked the idea. He reimagined the sounds as coming from a group of animals playing various instruments.
Radiographer Lesley Thompson said the artwork has been warmly received by patients and staff alike. Many have commented on it, and she said it adds character to the unit and helps create a more welcoming environment.
Willis, a retired BBC television director and producer, has been painting for about 70 years. He previously donated a similar style of painting to Antrim Area Hospital.
