Tributes paid to former Galbally teacher Eileen Cassidy
A former teacher at St Joseph’s Primary School in Galbally, County Tyrone, has died at her home.
Eileen Cassidy, of Glenburrisk, Galbally, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday.
A Requiem Mass was held at Galbally Chapel, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs Cassidy taught primary one to four at the school during her career and was remembered by the school as a dedicated and kind teacher.
In a statement, St Joseph’s described Mrs Cassidy as highly regarded and noted that she was known for instilling reading, writing, arithmetic and religious education in her pupils.
The school said she prepared many children for their First Holy Communion and set an example through her own faith in the community.
Teachers at post-primary schools who later received pupils from Galbally observed that the children were well-versed in their faith, a tradition that continues due to teachers like Mrs Cassidy, the statement added.
The school offered condolences to the Cassidy and McGeary families and said they were grateful for her years of service.
Mrs Cassidy is survived by her husband Peter, her daughter Fionnuala, and grandchildren Colm, Una, Aine and Oran. She is also survived by a brother, Colum, and was predeceased by siblings Michael, Anne, Mary, Patrick and John.
