Donaldson trial to hear police interviews as third week begins
The sexual offences trial of former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson resumed at Newry Crown Court on Monday, with the jury set to watch recordings of police interviews with the defendant and his wife.
Donaldson, 63, has pleaded not guilty to 18 charges including one count of rape, indecent assault, and gross indecency. The alleged offences span from 1985 to 2008 and involve two complainants, both children at the time of the alleged incidents.
His wife, Eleanor Donaldson, faces a trial of the facts after being deemed unfit to participate in a conventional trial on mental health grounds. She denies several charges of aiding and abetting the alleged offending.
The complainants, referred to in court as Complainant A and Complainant B, reported their allegations to the Police Service of Northern Ireland in March 2024. Both have already given evidence before the jury of seven men and five women.
The prosecution case continues on Monday with the playing of the defendants' police interviews. No date has yet been set for the defence case.
