St Gall's Secure Comfortable Derby Win Over St John's in Antrim League
St Gall's returned to winning ways with a 1-19 to 1-11 victory over city rivals St John's in Antrim's Division One at Milltown on Sunday morning.
Niall Fallon scored the game's opening goal for St Gall's after a quick free from Barra McCaffrey found Padraig Óg Murray, who laid it off. St John's protested, claiming an injury should have stopped play, but referee Ray Matthews instead penalised them for misconduct, awarding a free that Daniel Quinn converted.
Paddy McBride kept St John's in contention with five points, while Odhran McAuley and Conall Quinn also added scores. St Gall's led by three at half-time, with Christopher Hale sent to the sin bin late in the half.
After the break, St Gall's pulled clear. Dubhaltach Wilson opened the scoring, and further points from McCaffrey and a two-point free from Quinn extended the gap to nine. Conall Quinn replied with a goal after Chris Kerr saved an initial shot, but Cormac Austin and McCaffrey restored the home side's control. A late two-pointer from Conor McEvoy cut the deficit to five, but McCaffrey and Mickey Pollock scored to seal the win.
