Lisburn and Castlereagh Council begins EV charger installations
Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council has started work on new electric vehicle chargers at selected sites.
The council is delivering two schemes in partnership with charge point operator Weev.
One scheme installs residential chargers for households without off-street parking. Locations were chosen near homes to allow overnight use.
A second scheme places faster chargers in council car parks for use by visitors and shoppers.
Alderman Owen Gawith said the chargers will reduce barriers to electric vehicle ownership and support efforts to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
Councillor Claire Kemp said the projects show the council's commitment to sustainability targets and wider access to charging for residents and visitors.
Chris Hanna of Weev said the installations form part of a contract to expand local charging and support government net zero goals. The rollout is scheduled over the coming months.
