Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council has approved a three-month funding extension for public realm CCTV monitoring. The service is currently provided by local social enterprise Citywatch CCTV NI, which notified the council of its plan to wind up.

Elected members agreed to the extension at the March Regeneration and Growth Committee meeting, pending council ratification. The decision ensures continuous monitoring during the transition to a new provider.

The council funds the CCTV system, with the Police Service of Northern Ireland providing accommodation support. A forthcoming tender exercise will commission future monitoring services.

The council plans to release frequently asked questions detailing the transition and service continuity.

A council spokesperson stated that the organisation values Citywatch's past service and anticipates efficiencies from combining CCTV across council properties, benefiting ratepayers.
