Northern Ireland recorded its sixth-warmest spring on record this year, according to provisional Met Office data.

The mean temperature for the season across the region was 9.06C, which is 0.92C above the long-term average.

Most areas were between 0.5C and 1C warmer than usual. Parts of east Antrim and east Down recorded temperatures 1C to 1.5C above average.

Meteorological spring covers March to May. The previous record was set in 2025 with a mean of 9.78C.

Across the UK, spring 2026 was the third-warmest on record. England and Wales each recorded their warmest spring since records began.

Met Office scientist Dr Emily Carlisle stated that all three months of meteorological spring recorded mean temperatures within the UK's top ten warmest on record.

Dr Carlisle noted that nine of the ten warmest springs in England have occurred since 2007.
