Mid Ulster Council Funds Community Projects and Refugee Events
Mid Ulster District Council has announced more than £1.27 million in grant funding for 885 community, sports and cultural projects across the district in 2026/27.
The largest share, £634,052, will go to community development activities. Additional allocations include £250,000 for sports pitch upgrades in Kildress, Clonoe, Magherafelt, Ballymaguigan and Greenlough, and £200,000 for capital works at facilities in Slaughtneil, Magherafelt, Killeeshil and Fivemiletown.
More than £100,000 supports strategic events and over £30,000 funds Irish language initiatives.
In a separate programme, the council is partnering with STEP to mark Refugee Week from 15 to 21 June 2026 under the theme of Courage.
Events include English language cafes in Dungannon and Cookstown, a drop-in night at Cookstown Youth Centre on 17 June, a Sanctuary Runners walk in Dungannon on 18 June, and a community picnic at Hill of The O’Neill on 20 June.
Chair Councillor Frances Burton said the grants demonstrate commitment to local groups that deliver services, improve facilities and strengthen connections.
The council is also inviting sponsorship proposals for flowerbed and seasonal planting displays, with submissions open from 1 June to 19 June 2026 for placements starting January 2027.
