Play to tell story of Ulster-born American author
A new production will present the life of Dr James McHenry, who was born in Larne in 1785.
McHenry was the first novelist to place an Ulster family in American literature, introducing the Fraziers in his 1820s novel The Wilderness.
He later served as United States Consul in Londonderry and is buried at St Cedma's Parish Church.
The production, titled McHenry: An Ulster American Story from Larne, was written by historian Dr David Hume.
It forms part of the America 250 commemorations and will be staged at St Cedma's Parish Church on Friday, June 19.
Local performers include Lisa Dawson, who composed new music for the event, dulcimer player Dick Glasgow, actors Gillian Rea, Robert Stewart and David Moore, and narrator James McTeggart.
Tickets are free but must be booked in advance through Larne Museum & Arts Centre by telephone on 028 28 262443 or by email.
