A 21-year-old man has been granted bail after appearing at Derry Magistrates’ Court charged with assaulting and harassing his mother.

Frankie Lynn, of Rockmills in the Strand Road area, faces one count of assault on July 28 and one count of harassment on July 27.

A police officer confirmed he connected the accused to the charges and told the court that bail was opposed due to Lynn’s record and the risk of re-offending.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said it was a mother-son incident and argued that Lynn could be released with conditions.

The district judge imposed bail conditions requiring Lynn to have no contact with his mother and to stay at least half a mile away from Balliniska Heights.

The case was adjourned until August 27.
