Eight NI Designers to Showcase Work at Ireland Fashion Week
Eight young designers from Northern Ireland will present their collections at Ireland Fashion Week in October.
The designers, who are current or former students at Ulster University's Belfast School of Art, will take part in the Graduate Fashion Show.
The event runs from October 7 to 12 under the theme 'Damhsa', the Irish word for dance.
Collections will draw on family history, local traditions and personal experiences from Northern Ireland.
Rebekah Murphy plans to base her designs on traditional Irish dancing costumes, drawing from her upbringing in Belfast.
Cillian Dornan will incorporate knitwear to honour his grandmother, who knitted for her six children during the 1970s and 1980s.
Holly Bell will focus on sustainability by upcycling textiles that carry personal histories.
Ellie Althea Walsh will explore connections between dance hall culture in Northern Ireland during the 1950s and jazz bars in China, referencing how her grandparents met.
The designers attended bootcamp sessions in Dublin in April where they received guidance on building brands and met other participants.
