Northern Threads exhibition highlights four designers preserving textile traditions
Four Northern Ireland designers are presenting their work in an exhibition titled Northern Threads at Titanic Belfast.
Gráinne Maher creates bespoke millinery pieces. Her hats have been worn by Selena Gomez and Alexandra Burke.
Sara O'Neill founded Éadach twelve years ago. Her designs draw on Irish folklore and have appeared at the Oscars, BAFTAs and Emmys.
Hope Macaulay produces sculptural knitwear. Her garments featured in the BBC series The Traitors.
Amy Anderson established Kindred of Ireland after viewing a photograph of her grandmother working in a mill in Moygashel, County Tyrone. The company produces modern garments from Irish linen using family-run mills and local seamstresses.
The exhibition places the designers' output alongside examples of Northern Ireland's historical linen industry, which at its peak employed over 70,000 people across roughly 200 companies.
Gráinne Maher said the exhibition aims to encourage recent graduates and place Northern Ireland on the fashion map.
