Derry Designer Jonathan Anderson Features Local Phrase in Dior Collection
Jonathan Anderson, creative director at Dior and from Derry, featured a shirt printed with the phrase 'Says I, To Myself, Says I' in the brand's latest Cruise collection. The phrase is common in Northern Ireland.
The collection resulted from Anderson's collaboration with artist Ed Ruscha. Ruscha's recent exhibition carried the same title 'Says I, To Myself, Says I'.
The phrase also appears in the TV series 'Derry Girls', created by Lisa McGee. Uncle Colm, a character in the show, uses a similar expression to start stories.
Dior showcased the collection outside the David Geffen Galleries at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The set drew from old Hollywood themes.
Design elements included references to a 1949 jacket worn by Marlene Dietrich in the film Stage Fright. Californian poppy motifs appeared alongside floral patterns.
