Police Probe Racially Motivated Harassment of Family in Strathfoyle
Police in the Strathfoyle area of Londonderry are investigating harassment of a family as a racially motivated hate crime. The family reported verbal abuse over several weeks. Mud and water balloons were thrown at their property.
Chief Inspector Craig confirmed officers spoke to a number of young people about the incidents. The Neighbourhood Policing Team plans to continue community engagement. Police stated racially motivated crime is unacceptable and will be addressed firmly.
Officers requested information from the public to assist the investigation. Contact can be made on the non-emergency number 101. Reports may be submitted online via the PSNI non-emergency form or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Beverly Simpson, an anti-racism campaigner and independent member of the local policing and community safety partnership, called for the family to live in peace. She said residents have a duty to ensure neighbours feel safe irrespective of ethnicity.
