South Eastern Trust Opens £2m Extension at Crossgar Health Centre
A £2 million extension opened at Crossgar Health Centre in the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust area. The project co-locates GP services with treatment room nurses, physiotherapists, district nurses, social workers, and practice nurses. GPs Dr Trainor, Dr Smyth, and Dr Wylie now work alongside these teams at the site.
The two-storey addition includes 12 new rooms and refurbishments to existing areas. Staff from the former Crossgar Clinic moved into the health centre. Capacity expanded for GP training, practice nurses, and staff facilities.
Roisin Coulter, Chief Executive of South Eastern Trust, stated the investment improves patient experience and supports team-based care. She noted modern facilities aid safe, effective care delivery. Coulter thanked the estates team, design team, and J P & S Construction for minimizing service disruption.
Veronica Cleland, Director of Primary Care and Older People, said the facility enhances communication and teamwork for better patient outcomes. She added it meets community needs efficiently.
Allison Hamilton, Practice Manager, called the project a milestone that enables joined-up care. She thanked those involved and patients for their patience.
Martin Hayes, Department of Health Programme Director for Primary Care Infrastructure Development, said GP premises investment is a priority. He noted over £8 million invested in the Trust area in five years and visited the centre.
