Southern Trust highlights emergency support teams
The Southern Health and Social Care Trust has recognised its Emergency Support Centre teams for their role in assisting people during evacuations and other incidents.
The centres operate in Craigavon and Banbridge, Newry and Mourne, and Armagh and Dungannon. They are activated when required by events such as major incidents.
Staff work with the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, local councils and voluntary groups. Their duties include providing immediate care, updates to families and support for reuniting those separated.
Managers remain on call around the clock and can establish facilities including Emergency Rest Centres, Survivor Reception Centres, Friends and Relatives Reception Centres or Community Assistance Centres.
Dr Stephen Austin, the Trust Medical Director, stated that the centres deliver critical assistance through coordinated action between health services, emergency responders and councils. He noted that the teams respond in fast-moving situations to ensure safety and wellbeing.
The Trust said the work involves safeguarding responsibilities and partnership efforts to support communities during difficult circumstances.
