The Southern Health and Social Care Trust has started a multi-year rotational programme for locally employed doctors not in national training posts. The initiative provides structured pathways, supervision, support, and competency development within the organisation.

Dr Georgia Moore and Dr Sarah Glover, both employed by the Southern Trust, created the programme based on peer feedback. Dr Moore works as a clinical fellow in general medicine at Daisy Hill Hospital. Dr Glover serves as a foundation doctor in the intensive care unit at Craigavon Area Hospital.

The programme offers rotational posts, protected development time, portfolio support, and progression pathways with multi-year contracts. Health and Social Care Trusts employ doctors in fixed-term non-training roles across medical specialties.

Dr Aisling Diamond, Deputy Medical Director for Education and Workforce at the Southern Trust, supports the project. The programme operates through the Trust's Academy structure for doctor development.

Dr Haider Khan, in his final year of Internal Medicine Training at another Trust, expressed interest in joining locally. Dr Abdelazem Elsherbeny joined the Southern Trust via overseas recruitment from India in 2023 and advanced to Consultant Urologist at Craigavon Area Hospital.
