More than 1,000 runners will compete in the 11th Strabane Lifford Half Marathon on Sunday. The 13.1-mile course starts at 9.30am from the Alley Theatre in Strabane, crosses into Donegal through Lifford and Clady village, and finishes at Melvin Athletics Track.

The event sold out in record time for its largest field yet. Organisers expect competitive races in both men's and women's categories. John Joe Doherty won the Walled City Ten Miler in Derry in February. David Laird won the Ballyshannon 5k in April. Ann Marie McGlynn won the Omagh Half Marathon with a time of 1:14:08.

Derry City and Strabane District Council retained most of last year's revised course with minor changes. Festival and Events Officer Catherine Ashford said the council welcomes runners and spectators to Strabane and aims for a positive experience. She noted participants received race day instructions by email covering parking, toilets, water stations, and timings.

Mayor of Derry and Strabane Councillor Ruairí McHugh will start the race. Council Head of Events Jacqueline Whoriskey said the event attracts many spectators to the town centre.

Motorists face delays in Strabane town centre from 9am to 12.30pm, especially on Railway Street, Main Street, Bridge Street, Urney Road, A5, Bradley Way, John Wesley Street, Canal Street, and Dock Street. On the Donegal side, the N15 southbound lane between Lifford and Clady closes from 8.30am to 1pm with signed diversions.

Temporary restrictions result from planning with PSNI, An Garda Síochána, Department for Infrastructure, and Donegal County Council. No parking at Melvin Sports Complex on race day. Participant parking at Canal Street Car Park. Public parking at John Wesley Street, Lower Main Street, and Butcher Street.

Race pack collection occurs at Melvin Sports Complex on Friday from 4pm to 8pm, Saturday from 9am to 2pm or 10am to 2pm, and Sunday morning from 7.30am to 8.30am. Road closure and course details available at www.derrystrabane.com/slhm.
