Portadown Running Festival Plans Larger Event with Road Closures
Portadown Running Club has registered more than 2000 participants for its 2026 running festival. The event includes a half marathon, 10K and 5K races, all starting and finishing at Portadown Rugby Football Club in County Armagh.
Races begin with the half marathon at 9am from the rugby club grounds, followed by the 5K at 9.15am and the 10K at 9.30am from the Edenderry church area. Organisers have secured council permits for road closures to protect runners.
Closures affect Bridge Street, Carrickblacker Road and Gilford Road toward the town from 8.30am to 10.15am. Garvaghy Road to the People's Park closes from 9am to 10.15am. In Gilford, Wall Road, Madden Road and the route from Shillington's to Asda remain shut until midday.
Traffic management and marshals will direct vehicles during the event. Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council approved the measures.
The festival supports NI Chest Heart and Stroke and Reverse Rhett's charities. Last year, it raised 15000 pounds for Marie Curie and PIPS Hope and Support.
Sponsors include Scott Elevator Rentals and Globeweigh. Cheer points line the route at Portadown Boat Club, Ground Cafe, Bann Bridge, Portadown Rugby Club and Chambers Park.
