Aidan O’Keefe, 29, charged with the murder of Kevin Conway in west Belfast, applied at the High Court to lift a ban on him driving vehicles. The application came during a hearing on Monday. O’Keefe remains on bail.

Kevin Conway, 26, died from gunshot wounds at his home in Rossnareen Park on January 9, 2024. Prosecutors stated the killing formed part of reprisals in a feud between criminal groups. Conway faced trial for the murder of Shane Whitla in Lurgan, County Armagh, a year earlier.

O’Keefe faces prosecution alongside Fergal Kane, 55, both charged with murder under joint enterprise. Evidence includes CCTV footage, vehicle tracking, and registration plate sightings from the night. A shotgun cartridge was found in O’Keefe’s work van. He searched online for one-way flights to America after the incident.

Parts of a handgun from the Conway shooting appeared in a February 2025 attempt to kill taxi driver Sean O’Reilly at a cab firm in Bellsteel Manor, west Belfast. Prosecutors linked that attack to a feud involving Oglaigh na hEireann. O’Keefe faces no charges in the O’Reilly case.

Crown counsel opposed O’Keefe driving for a repair job that requires entering homes across Northern Ireland. O’Keefe received High Court bail in October 2024, but police detained him in December 2024 for breaching terms by possessing extra phones and riding in a car linked to terrorism charges. Released again in January 2025, he can travel only as a passenger.

Defence barrister Michael Forde stated O’Keefe has a job offer needing driving permission. Madam Justice McBride adjourned the application to learn the employer’s views and background checks on staff.
