Schoolchildren from St Canices in Dungiven, St Canices in Feeney, and Long Tower Primary School in Derry participated in a showcase of The Daily Mile initiative at half-time during the recent Derry vs Antrim GAA championship match at Celtic Park.

The event marked the first time a school-based health and wellbeing programme appeared at a championship GAA fixture. Children ran to demonstrate the daily 15-minute physical activity routine.

A feature on The Daily Mile appeared in the official match programme, shared with thousands of supporters.

Dr Brenda McKay Redmond and Dr Barbara McConnell, co-chairs of The Daily Mile Network NI and senior lecturers at Stranmillis University, stated that the showcase at Celtic Park showed how education, sport, and community support children's health. They thanked Ulster GAA and others involved.

Northern Ireland leads the UK in school participation in The Daily Mile. Partners include Ulster GAA, NI Athletics, health trusts, Education Authority, and universities.
