Lisburn Man Charged with Assault and Disorderly Behaviour in Derry Court
Sean Donaghy, 27, from Ivy Hill in Lisburn, appeared in Derry court on Monday. He faces charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on a man in Waterloo Place on April 22 afternoon.
Police responded to the location at 1.15pm after reports of an unprovoked attack. Donaghy approached the victim, asked if he was someone else, and punched him repeatedly to the head after a denial. The victim's T-shirt was torn in the incident, which CCTV captured. The victim showed visible injuries.
Donaghy received further charges of disorderly behaviour and criminal damage to the T-shirt from the same afternoon.
After arrest, Donaghy admitted the acts. He stated he had partied for 24 hours, had been assaulted earlier, and sought the person he thought responsible. Police released him on bail for a reappearance in 28 days.
On April 26 at 2.30am, Donaghy arrived at Strand Road PSNI station. He pressed the buzzer repeatedly and demanded admission to prison. When officers approached, he turned verbally aggressive toward police and members of the public.
Donaghy faces an additional charge of disorderly behaviour from the station incident. Police linked him to all charges and opposed bail, citing his record of violent offences and risk of re-offending.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott noted the Waterloo Place charge as more serious. The court granted bail with conditions. Donaghy's next appearance is May 28.
