Sinn Féin held its annual Ard Fheis at the International Convention Centre in Belfast over the weekend. The conference last took place in the city in 2018 and was not held last year due to venue challenges.

Party leader Mary Lou McDonald stated that referendums on Irish unity could occur by 2030. She noted the upcoming thirtieth anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement in two years. McDonald said Sinn Féin will introduce legislation before summer to require the Irish government to issue a green paper on unity processes and hold all-Ireland citizens' assemblies.

McDonald criticised the Fianna Fáil-Fine Gael government for emigration of young people despite Ireland's wealth. She said young people leave for Australia and Canada due to inability to afford homes. She called for rent cuts, a ban on rent increases, reuse of derelict homes and construction of affordable housing.

Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA Colm Gildernew addressed housing and homelessness. He plans to present Executive legislation soon to extend Housing Executive support for those threatened with homelessness. Gildernew said thousands of families face unsuitable accommodation and accused the DUP housing minister of missing social home targets.

Enniskillen councillor Dermot Browne raised the removal of emergency general surgery from South West Acute Hospital in December 2022. He said the Western Health Trust failed to retain surgeons, forcing Fermanagh patients to travel up to two hours to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry. Browne called for an all-island healthcare system.

Derg councillor Caroline Devine spoke on health services. She said public health systems fail to deliver and governments have not planned, trained or retained staff adequately.

Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O'Neill accused the DUP of seeking to reverse progress and targeting Irish national identity. O'Neill stated her party will propose reforms to Northern Ireland's devolved institutions to remove blockages.

DUP Education Minister Paul Givan responded in the assembly on Monday that Sinn Féin blocks his department's legislation in the Executive. He said education bills have faced delays over minor issues and called the draft budget from Sinn Féin Finance Minister John O'Dowd inadequate for education.
