Karla Hanratty, 26, from Derry Street in Lurgan, faces an attempted murder charge for stabbing her partner on 21 February. The incident took place in Lurgan, County Armagh.

Police responded to a call from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service about a man stabbed multiple times. They found the complainant slumped on stairs with two wounds to his back and one to his arm. One wound punctured a lung. He received treatment at Royal Victoria Hospital.

Two people at the address identified Hanratty as responsible. As police removed her, she stated she had stabbed him in the back. Witnesses said an argument started in the bedroom after the complainant winked at the woman present.

Hanratty allegedly said she would stab the injured party. She took a knife with a 3-4 inch blade from her make-up bag. In interviews, she admitted the argument over the wink and the stabbing.

Hanratty claimed an abusive relationship with her partner, who she said was controlling. She stated he pulled her off the bed during the dispute, causing two fractured ribs, and damaged her phone. She said she stabbed him while standing on the bed and denied intent to harm, citing self-defence.

On 10 April, Hanratty appeared via video link at Craigavon Magistrates Court. Her defence sought bail with an alternative address. A detective opposed release due to risks of pressuring the complainant and witnesses.

Deputy District Judge Trevor Browne refused bail, noting the stabbing occurred with the complainant's back turned. He cited potential witness interference. The case resumes on 8 May. Hanratty remains in custody.

Defence counsel Aaron Thompson noted the complainant contacted Hanratty's solicitor to say he does not want to proceed. The complainant has not given a formal statement but plans to when recovered.
