Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has requested a reappraisal of the redevelopment project at Ronán’s Way in Cushendun after halting it due to ownership concerns.

The council's Leisure and Development Committee approved PEACEPLUS funding last month for parts of the Layde Path, Cottage Wood and Ronán’s Way project. This included £506,388 for Layde Path work such as vegetation clearance, path repairs and timber bridge replacements. Another £678,725 went to Cottage Wood for invasive species removal, road resurfacing and new signage.

Funding of £225,100 for Ronán’s Way improvements was withdrawn when council officers found the land is not owned by the council. Officers noted this could delay the project and risk missing the funding deadline.

Independent councillor Margaret Anne McKillop stated the landowner had been waiting for a lease agreement with the council to enable the scheme. She expressed disappointment over the Ronán’s Way halt while welcoming funding for the other sites.

At the full council meeting in April, McKillop called for the matter to return to the project board for discussion. She said the lease process had been underway for the Land and Property Subcommittee but did not proceed, and the board should explain the status to the landowner.
