Public consultation launched for Derry's £45m Centre Riverfront project
Derry City and Strabane District Council and the Department for Infrastructure have started a public consultation on the £45 million Centre Riverfront project. The initiative targets the area from Strand Road via Harbour Square to Ulster University.
Events took place at the Guildhall on Wednesday and Thursday. An online survey remains open for additional responses.
Joanne Benison, Derry Regeneration Programme Manager, stated the project aims to highlight the river's role after years of limited attention. She added it should encourage new businesses along the central riverfront, especially between the City Hotel and council offices.
Benison reported positive responses during the sessions. Organisers have updated display materials and discontinued earlier artist impressions.
James Ashford, a Carnhill resident, attended the Wednesday event. He endorsed plans for a riverside walk as long overdue and sought clarification on a proposed structure for the peace garden.
Eamon Molloy, council Strategic Projects Programme Director, indicated the council intends to move to a new office in Peace Park. Ulster University could occupy the existing Strand Road building.
