Anne Tummon, 101, Laid to Rest in Enniskillen
Anne Tummon of Kilmacormick Road in Enniskillen died on Saturday, April 4, in her 102nd year. She passed away surrounded by family.
Mourners gathered for her funeral on Wednesday, April 8, at St Michael's Church in Enniskillen. She was interred at Cross Cemetery after the Requiem Mass.
Tummon was born in Tooma Cloone in the parish of Aughavas in Leitrim. She worked at Dolan's for seven years after leaving school. In 1947 she moved to England, where she cared for mental health patients and worked in a priest's house.
She met her husband Patrick in England while selling tickets at a parish hall dance to fund a hostel for Irish emigrants. The couple married on May 22, 1954. They had 10 children. Two children were born in England. The family returned to Ireland in 1957 and settled in Tyrone, where the other eight children were born.
In later years the family lived in Enniskillen. She is survived by her husband Patrick, sons Michael, Gerard, Kieran, Pat and Val, daughters Caroline Beacom, Arlene, Anita, Patricia Beacom and Anne Brennan, 39 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren.
Enniskillen Town United wore black armbands and held a minute's silence before their first team game on Saturday, April 4.
