Police in Londonderry started an investigation into an Easter Monday parade in the Creggan area organised by the National Republican Commemoration Committee. The procession began at Central Drive and moved to the City Cemetery.

Participants included a colour party in paramilitary-style uniforms, face coverings and sunglasses while holding the Irish flag and republican flags. About two hundred people joined, some young attendees with covered faces carrying petrol bombs and planks of wood.

A police helicopter tracked the event overhead. PSNI used evidence-gathering resources with no ground officers visible.

The Parades Commission permitted the march but banned paramilitary-style clothing and flags of proscribed groups.

PSNI reported that multiple participants wore paramilitary-style uniforms from the parade's start until dispersal. Police consider this an offence under the Terrorism Act 2000 and a violation of the commission's rules.

Chief Superintendent Gillian Kearney, Area Commander for Derry City and Strabane, noted that probes into prior events resulted in action against offences. She gave no further details due to the active investigation.

Attendees lit a small fire in the road outside shops in Creggan.
