Police in Derry and Strabane mounted a major operation for St Patrick's Day on March 17. Inspector Cathal Pearce of the PSNI stated that officers worked to keep people safe in both locations.

Three men were arrested on Bishop Street in Derry at around 3.05pm as the city's St Patrick's Day parade began. The men had tried to join the parade without invitation from the organisers.

When officers asked for their details, the men refused. They provided the information after further discussion and were released from arrest. The men then left the area and did not join the parade.

Inspector Pearce described the day as successful for policing in Derry and Strabane. Thousands of spectators attended despite rain. The event followed months of planning by police and Derry City and Strabane District Council.
