Omagh Dance Classes Launch PEACEPLUS Cultural Music Programme
A new programme titled Exploration of Our Cultural Roots through Music launched in Omagh. The PEACEPLUS project run by Dún Uladh offers community events in the Fermanagh and Omagh district. Events include workshops and performances focused on music themes.
The programme covers four themes: Irish country music, songs from home, the dancehalls and showband era, and Irish and Ulster Scots. Irish country music events begin first with free six-week dance classes from April to June.
Classes run at Cashel Community Centre in Fermanagh on Thursdays from April 30 to June 4, 8pm to 10pm. Sessions occur at Glenpark Estate in Omagh on Tuesdays from May 5 to June 9, 8pm to 10pm. St Joseph’s Pastoral Centre in Monaghan hosts classes on Fridays from May 1 to June 5. Refreshments serve at all locations.
A finale event unites participants at Mahon’s Hotel in Irvinestown on June 10, 8pm to 11pm. Declan Aungier performs accordion music for social dancing. The event admits those who attended classes and provides refreshments.
Songs from home and Irish and Ulster Scots themes run from September to November. The showband era theme follows in January 2027.
Dún Uladh invites community groups, individuals, choirs, and musicians from Fermanagh and Omagh to join. St Eugene’s Brass & Reed Band performed at the launch. Registration for Glenpark Estate classes requires emailing peaceplus@dunuladh.ie or calling 028 8224 2777. All ages and abilities welcome with no partner needed.
