Fire at Omagh Bedding Factory Caused by Dust Explosion
A fire at the Boyds Bedding factory in Omagh's Doogary West Industrial Estate began with a dust explosion from a hopper, according to an initial investigation by the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.
The blaze injured one person who was airlifted to hospital. Firefighters from multiple stations across Northern Ireland responded.
At the peak of the incident yesterday, 102 firefighters tackled the fire. Appliances came from Omagh, Fintona, Newtownstewart, Strabane, Dromore, Irvinestown, Clogher, Castlederg, Enniskillen, Northland, Maghera, Magherafelt, Dungannon, Cookstown, and Central Fire Stations.
Specialist units included two aerial appliances from Northland and Knock Fire Stations, two water tankers from Pomeroy and Belleek Fire Stations, a high-volume pump from Northland Fire Station, specialist rescue teams from Central Fire Station, and a command support unit from Strabane Fire Station.
Crews worked through most of the day to control the fire and prevent its spread. Operations scaled back around 6pm.
The NIFRS thanked the public for their patience during the response.
