The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service controlled a large fire on Crossnamucky Road in Newtownards. The initial call came in at 7.14pm on Saturday, 11 April 2026. The incident ended at 8.01am on Sunday, 12 April 2026.

More than 50 firefighters and personnel responded at the height of the blaze. Fire appliances attended from Bangor, Lisburn, Newtownards, Knock, Comber, Holywood, Donaghadee, Glengormley, Banbridge, Ballywalter, Cadogan, Springfield, and Carryduff stations.

Specialist units supported the operation. These included a Command Support Unit from Lisburn, a Water Tanker from Warrenpoint, and an Aerial Appliance from Knock.

A service spokesperson stated the cause was accidental ignition. The public received thanks for their patience during the response.
