Colm Gorman, originally from Benburb in Tyrone, has published a children's book titled 'Joey and The Eagle'. The story centers on a young boy living in a home with older siblings who seeks adventure. An eagle visits the boy's bedroom window one evening and takes him on a flight above the trees.

Gorman lives in Belfast after more than 40 years there and retired as a financial adviser. He grew up in the gatehouse to Benburb Priory. He created the tale from stories he told his own young children about his boyhood in the village.

The book ends with the boy returned home. His mother enters after hearing noise and hears his account of the flight. She shows disbelief, but a feather remains as evidence.

Paddy McConnell, an artist based in Belfast, provided illustrations for the book.

Gorman plans a series of books. Each will cover a different historical period in Benburb, including the 1500s at Shane O’Neill’s Castle, the 1600s Plantation of Ulster, the 1800s famine, and mid-1900s events when the manor was used by British and American forces in the Second World War.

The book is sold at outlets in Benburb, Blackwatertown, Armagh, Moy, and Dungannon, such as McAnallen’s Supermarket and various Spar stores.
