Community Advice Antrim and Newtownabbey (CAAN) held an event to mark its 60th anniversary. The organisation provides free confidential independent advice on financial pressure housing challenges welfare issues and other situations.

Speakers at the event included Deputy Mayor Councillor Julie Gilmour Antrim Foodbank manager Fionnuala O’Donnell Department for Communities Director Ray Caldwell NI Joseph Rowntree Foundation Head Ursula O’Hare and client Lee Williamson. Each addressed CAAN's role in supporting individuals and families.

CAAN area manager Lorraine Adamson stated that staff and volunteers have shown dedication compassion and resilience over the decades. She noted that current pressures on households mean services are needed more than ever. Adamson added that CAAN will continue its work with partners to help people through hardship.

The organisation handles over 40,000 client enquiries each year. It generates around £8.5 million annually in income for local individuals and families. CAAN also supports over 850 digital enquiries yearly to assist those facing access barriers.

Eighty-eight percent of clients report improved wellbeing from the advice received.
