Two Derry Men Face Court on Assault and Theft Charges
A Derry court granted bail to Darren Dixon, 29, of Carlton Court, charged with two assaults on a female and stealing a bank card. The alleged offences took place on March 28 in the Clon Dara area.
Police responded to reports of a street fight in Clon Dara. The woman stated a minor dispute escalated when Dixon pushed her, causing her to hit her head. She later noticed her bank card missing and confronted him, leading to a second altercation broken up by neighbours.
Upon arrest, Dixon denied assaulting her and said he took the card to obtain money for her. His solicitor noted he accepted he should not have contacted her but claimed she had urged him to do so. Bail conditions require him to avoid the Skeoge area. Dixon will appear in court again on May 6.
Separately, Martin Whoriskey, 35, also of Clon Dara, faced charges of possessing a machete, threatening to damage property, assaulting police, and common assault. Those offences allegedly occurred on March 27 and 28.
Police linked Whoriskey to the charges and agreed to bail with conditions including a PSNI-approved address, no alcohol, curfew, and electronic tagging. He will return to court on April 2.
