A covered stand at Melvin Arena in Strabane now bears the name Danny Rouse Stand. The 200-seater facility formed part of a £1.15 million upgrade to the venue.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Ruairí McHugh unveiled a plaque there on Tuesday. Rouse's family attended, including wife Eileen and children Danny Junior and Andrea.

McHugh described Rouse as a key figure in Strabane sport. He noted Rouse's success as a soccer player with local clubs and his nickname from powerful long-range goals. McHugh added that Rouse coached soccer and GAA players to develop their skills.

Rouse worked for long service in the waste and environmental services of the former Strabane Council.

Strabane independent councillor Raymond Barr welcomed the naming. Barr first proposed it to council in September 2020. A review of the naming process delayed the decision until recently.

Barr highlighted Rouse's role in promoting football in Strabane and supporting youth players. Rouse played and managed clubs north and south of the border. He passed away in 2010.
