Work on a £3.2 million upgrade at Melvin Sports Complex in Strabane nears completion. The council expects handover of the facility soon.

The project adds a dedicated boxing area and a three-court sports hall for multiple uses including gymnastics. It includes new changing rooms, a changing places facility, and additional storage space.

Strabane Sinn Féin councillor Paul Boggs welcomed the development after a meeting with council officers. He called it a significant step for local boxing that will enable Strabane to host Ulster-level events.

Councillor Boggs urged local boxing clubs to use the facility fully. He said it could inspire a new generation of boxers in the area.

He added that his Sinn Féin team will keep working with council officers and clubs to open the site without delay.
