Ursula Marshall, Disability Rights Activist from Cookstown, Dies at Age Unknown
Ursula Marshall, a resident of Greenacres in Cookstown, died suddenly on March 19. Her Requiem Mass took place at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Cookstown on Tuesday.
She was the mother of Cathy, Adam, and Brendan, and grandmother of Jac, Sonny, and Rufus. Marshall was the sister of Martha, Peter, John, Sheila, Frank, Deirdre, Tom, and Kevin. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Kitty Doyle.
Marshall served as a founding member of Shopmobility/Mobility Mid Ulster and chair of Mid Ulster Disability Forum. She held roles in Town Centre Forums and took part in Causeway and Mid Ulster Women's Aid, Support for Children and Young People CYPSP, Mid Ulster PCSP, Mid Ulster Senior Network, and Disability Action Northern Ireland.
Cookstown and Western Shores Area Network described Marshall as a community figurehead who worked on inclusion and equality over decades.
Causeway and Mid Ulster Women's Aid noted her role as a long-term board member and former manager. The group highlighted her work supporting women, children, and young people affected by domestic abuse.
Disability Action Northern Ireland stated Marshall sat on its board of directors. The organization recognized her efforts to advance disability rights.
Ulster Unionist Councillor Trevor Wilson from Cookstown said he knew Marshall for 20 years. He noted her involvement in disability rights and Women's Aid.
