Health authorities ruled out meningococcal disease in a probable case involving a pupil at a Belfast school on 17 March 2026.

Symptoms of meningitis include fever above 37.5C, vomiting, headache, blotchy rash, stiff neck, sensitivity to light, drowsiness, unresponsiveness, and seizures.
The symptoms typically appear suddenly.
