Ards and North Down Borough Council will assume operation of Bangor Marina and Harbour from 1 April 2026. The transfer follows a procurement process where the council and current operator Boatfolk could not agree on terms for a new management contract.

Council officers are communicating directly with Bangor Marina staff. They plan to engage berth holders and customers soon. Continuity of services and high service levels are the main priorities.

Boatfolk has contacted current berth holders to seek permission for data transfer to the council. Berth holders are urged to respond quickly for a smooth handover. A council enquiry line for marina customers opens at noon on 18 March, with details on the council website.

No major changes to services or public access to the facilities are expected. Staff will transfer to the council under TUPE arrangements. The council supports the staff during this period.

The council intends to review the long-term operating model after the transition to sustain the site's success.
