Dromara teenager fined for driving unlicensed and in dangerous condition
A teenager from Dromara has been fined at Lisburn Magistrates Court after police stopped him driving a black Audi in a dangerous condition.
Mackenzie Garham, 19, of Aughnaskeagh Road, was observed by police on 28 June at Rathfriland Road in Dromara at around 5.55pm. The car had damage to its front and rear, and its tyres fell below the legal tread requirement.
Checks revealed that Garham had been disqualified from driving but had not reapplied for his licence after the disqualification period ended almost a year earlier. Police seized the vehicle, which they described as being in a dangerous condition.
Garham represented himself in court and said he intended to repair the car. On the day in question, he said he had taken it to go to the chip shop.
District Judge Rosie Watters imposed a fine of £50 for having no driving licence and a fine of £100 for using a motor vehicle in a dangerous condition. An offender's levy of £15 was also imposed, and Garham's licence was endorsed with three penalty points.
Judge Watters told Garham he should apply immediately for his licence.
