Staff, patients and families at the Ulster Hospital Gastroenterology Ward raised almost £1,000 for Pancreatic Cancer UK. The funds came from a bake sale with home-baked treats on ward tables.

The money supports research and assistance for people with pancreatic cancer. The charity operates across the UK and campaigns for earlier diagnosis.

Staff Nurse Ashley Marshall said the charity supplies leaflets and materials to the ward for patients, families and staff. She noted the website offers support and information for patients.

Marshall used the website for guidance when her father received a pancreatic cancer diagnosis. She described the bake sale as a way to express thanks to the charity.

A family of a former patient attended the event to offer support.
