Enniskillen Funeral Marks End for Murder Victim Ellie Flanagan
The funeral of 23-year-old Ellie Flanagan occurred at St. Michael’s Parish Church in Enniskillen. She died on Saturday, March 7. Police found her body at an address in the Corban Avenue area while investigating a collision on the Carn Road near Tempo.
A 45-year-old man from Enniskillen, Martin McCarney, faces a murder charge in connection with her death. He also faces a charge of possessing three knives.
Monsignor Peter O’Reilly led the Requiem Mass. He stated that the letters in Ellie’s name represented her love for life in Enniskillen. He noted her family devotion, daily expressions of love to her mother Karen, and role as the eldest cousin.
Monsignor O’Reilly mentioned her early medical challenges and family support for her successes. He highlighted her involvement with the Lakeland Players, where she performed as the Fairy Godmother, and her work at the Little Foxes playgroup.
Objects brought to the altar included Minnie Mouse ears, a wand, a glitterball, a book, and a fox. These represented her interests in Disney, stage performances, dancing shows, reading, and childcare.
Monsignor O’Reilly addressed the sudden loss affecting her mother Karen, grandparents, relatives, friends, colleagues, and the Enniskillen community, including residents of Corban Avenue and Cornagrade.
Ellie’s mother Karen read a poem after the Mass. Ellie was interred at Cross Cemetery.
