Luke Bosdet of the AA noted that wholesale costs increased before recent Middle East strikes. He stated pump averages remain below year-start levels and petrol costs almost 6.5 pence less per litre than a year ago, saving over £3.50 per tank compared to early March 2025.
Simon Williams, RAC head of policy, said oil price rises take at least a week to affect pumps. He noted dated Brent crude rose five dollars per barrel to 78 dollars and urged retailers not to raise prices on existing forecourt fuel.
Gordon Balmer, executive director of the Petrol Retailers Association, said Middle East conflict raises wholesale costs, requiring pump price increases that add to inflation and strain household budgets.
