Petrol Prices in Northern Ireland Rise Sharply Amid Iran Conflict
Petrol prices across Northern Ireland have increased significantly since the Iran conflict began on February 28. Lisburn and Castlereagh recorded the largest rise at 21% or 23.3p per litre since February 19. Derry City and Strabane has the highest average price at 148.8p per litre as of March 29. Causeway Coast and Glens offers the lowest at 144.8p per litre on the same date.
UK-wide data shows average unleaded petrol at 148.8p per litre on March 30, up 13% since March 2. Diesel averaged 176.5p per litre, a 24% increase over the same period. RAC figures list unleaded at 152.8p and diesel at 182.8p on March 31.
Filling a 55-litre family car with diesel now costs £100.52, the first time exceeding £100 since December 2022. Motorists have spent an extra £544 million on petrol and diesel since February 27 compared to prior levels.
Heating oil prices also surged. Standard grade burning oil averaged 104.1p per litre in March, nearly double February's 53.5p. Gas oil reached 99.5p per litre, up 51% from February.
