Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council's Environmental Services committee approved more than 20 events for parks and open spaces from April to September. The events include fun runs, agricultural shows, Pride celebrations and pipe band competitions.
The schedule starts on April 2 with the Lord Mayor’s Easter Trail at Tannaghmore Gardens. April 25 features a 5/10km run at Craigavon Lakes and a Sensory Walk at Portadown Park. On May 9, a walk and a cultural event occur at Lurgan Park. A funfair runs at Lurgan Park from May 20 to June 5 and at Solitude Park in Banbridge from June 10 to June 23. A dog show takes place at Lurgan Park on May 24.
June includes outdoor praise services at Lurgan Park on five Sundays starting June 7, an agricultural show at Lurgan Park on June 7, a holiday Bible club at Killylea Recreation Area from June 15 to 18, and an endurance run at Craigavon Lakes on June 20-21. August has yoga sessions every Sunday at Palace Demesne in Armagh, a pipe band competition at Lurgan Park on August 8, a Pride event and Good Relations Fun Day at Lurgan Park on August 15, and a youth fun day at Solitude Park on August 21.
September hosts a half marathon at Craigavon Lakes on September 13 and a country event at Portadown Park on September 19. Events with dates to be confirmed include cross country and cyclo cross at Armagh Palace Demesne, a classic car show at Kinnego Marina, and a sports cup at Central Sports Arena.
The committee considered the approval on March 3. Councillor Mary O’Dowd proposed the recommendation. She noted the events cover the whole borough and each one has value. Councillor Robbie Alexander seconded the motion. Organisers must provide health, safety and insurance documents. Council budgets cover grounds maintenance, and facility hire charges generate income.
